New Firmware via app but still no release notes
About two weeks ago, the Foxess app said there were firmware updates to the Manager and Master DSP, which I have done. I have looked here for the release notes:

https://fox-ess.tech/firmware-release-notes/

The release notes are still not showing. I appreciate that it says it can several days to appear, but should it take two weeks?
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
I suspect it's above 4 weeks, and then that's not exactly a definite on when they release this.
TBF they have done a heck of a lot so far this year, so better than no release notes :D
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
Yes agreed, it is good to be able to do this via the app and get release notes. Far easier than contacting the installer and getting them to check. In my case my installer is no longer doing domestic work.....so unwilling to help.
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
It would be nice to get release notes in App, or if they must use the website... how about posting them when the FW is available and not later (how can you make an informed decision at the time?)
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
I raised the issue by leaving a voicemail on the UK support website.

Much to my surprise, I received a call from Foxess support in China. Kai Xu confirmed by email, that the release notes will be updated soon and that future release notes will appear in the app as a pop-up. That is good news.
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
Sounds promising indeed. 8-)
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
Anyone installing updated firmware is taking a leap of faith and step into the dark at present with Fox.
Fox have had a number of issues with fw updates that have caused issues.
No developer would normally release fw without full backward compatibility testing and documentation.
Not saying they have not fully tested it, but if they have, then they will have all the documentation needed to publish.

From the tech world I come from, making changes without documentation and some form of comfort testing is a complete no no and sometimes a job ending move, unless it’s an emergency situation where the risks are calculated.

My advice is don’t upgrade until you know what the supposed changes are, and don’t forgot, sticking your head bone the parapet can be a very costly mistake, but there will be someone that will do it for you.
It it ain’t broke, don’t rush to fix something……….
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
So yet another firmware update today for the H1 G2, two weeks after the last and still waiting for the release notes from that time. I will wait a bit before updating again....just in case it screws something up this time.
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
I’ve just bumped the topic on a the main Fox Ess Tech Community – the seemingly minimal engagement there suggests nothing will come of it though.

I can’t fault their technical support response to a Ticket though.

Fox Support pushed a Manager (ARM) update from 1.52 to 1.66 to fix an issue regarding a power generating imbalance between identical strings connected to PV3 and PV4 inputs on a KH10.5.

Whilst I’m very grateful for the speed in which this issue was resolved I could have done this update myself if I had some idea as to what issues recent firmware releases were resolving.

I’ve followed up by asking Fox Support if I should similarly upgrade the Master from 1.58 (several options up to 1.70) and/or Slave from 1.01.

I’m a firm believer of ‘if it isn’t broke – don’t fix it’ but on the other hand if there are wider performance improvements through firmware updates then it would be good to deploy them.

Without any Release Notes however, we would be performing this task blind!
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
It’s got to a farcical state.
Fox appear to have no release control documentation or QA processes.
Their update page they launched in January, never updated.
Firmware upgrades pushed out, then deleted, the list goes on.
End users are guinea pigs.
Company to my eyes is a box shifter plain and simple, grabbing market share at the expensive of quality support.
The only saving grace is that if left alone it works 99% of the time.
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
Firmware updates are starting to appear in the FoxCloud2.0 App again for KH series inverter (other updates might now begin being released also)

KH Master v1.71
KH Manager v1.67

Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
Same with the H1G2.
Although the levels on offer differ from Wills spreadsheet, which has later versions shown as ‘in testing’
Having watched the Q&A session last week and the reasons given for the release notes roll out paused, it sadly did not give myself a warm feeling that 1 person in the Fox empire shifted responsibilities and no one else took over the roll in 5 months so far.
For me personally, bearing in mind previous releases that caused issues and got pulled, unless I’m in a fault scenario, upgrading into the darkness is not an option for me.
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
So today, the Fox app says there are upgrades to the Hi G2 Inverter, 1.59 for the Master and 1.78 for the Manager.

Will's spreadsheet still says "In Testing". Should I wait until Will says it is the latest approved update?

I have installed 1.78/1.59 offered on my H1-G2 6 - no noted changes so far.
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
I have corrected my earlier post....it should read 1.78 and 1.59.
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
I applied Master 1.59 and Manager 1.78 to my system (H1-5.0-E-G2) a couple of days ago, and it appears to have resolved an issue i was having with my Home Assistant integration (FoxESS Control). Obviously, with no idea of what has actually changed, I can't say what was wrong or what was fixed
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
I have now managed to update the Firmware, but it took several attempts. I kept getting an error message, see screenshot. I don't know what that mean't, but it finally did it.

I think if you read this full thread, that you can see there is a missing option (highlighted in red)
viewtopic.php?p=18155#p18155

There were missing options that now exist for more finer control

CRC = Cyclic Redundancy Check
Basically a checksum for the download file failed = bad download
So upon trying again, you download a new copy of the firmware file, until the checksum matches.
Re: New Firmware via app but still no release notes
Overnight my inverter decided to update its fw to 159 & 178 !!
This is so wrong

So frustrating the way Fox are operating. For me actions like this are clearly unacceptable to end users.
Nothing surprises me anymore with Fox
