Set Forced Charging for my battery SOC 60% night-time cheap electricity: 0000h to 0530h.
Woke up this morning - battery at 30% only.
Checked battery stats - it had charged to 60% but dishwasher, washing machine etc. on timer subsequently drained battery in early hours of morning.
Newbie error - inverter defaults to Self-Use when my SOC 60% is reached? Thus, my later timed wash drained the battery?
Should I set "After Charging Cut-off" to Backup or Standby?
Not sure what the difference between the two are.
Standby and Backup are closely related. I am not 100% sure on the difference, but from what I recall, 'Backup' is designed for mains failure, so it will hold the value set. 'Standby' is as far as I understand put the battery in a rest mode, so it's not quite designed to kick in during a power failure.
'Backup' is kind of a warm standby for the battery to take over during a power cut immediately.
As usual, I will mention I could have that wrong, but that's just how I understand it. Overnight charging with Home Assistant, would choose 'Backup' during a force charge.

It’s a subtle difference but Standby holds all battery activity so it will neither charge or discharge, Backup will hold discharge but it will continue to charge from solar during the day.
Thank you, really helpful. I set it to go into Backup and it worked very well today.
Seems particularly useful on a very sunny day with excess solar generation.
I can keep topping up my battery with solar, whilst the house and EV are fully engaged with solar too.

Hello
I had the similar problem. The battery was set to force charge between 2am and 5 am, with self use selected for after discharge.
But my hot water was also set to heat up at 3:30am till 5am. I thought that my battery would keep charging from the grid whilst the grid also powered the hot water.
What actually happened was that the battery charged from 2am as planned but at 3:30 when the hot water heater came on it took all of it's power from the battery?
My first question to "yk6623foxlm" is do you have your battery forced charge and electrical appliances set to come on at the same time or do you appliances come on after the forced charge?
My second question to everyone is what is the best option for after charge cut off? The descriptions are on Fox 2.0 are basic at best.
Please advise

In your situation where you have a force charge (low import rate) slot where you also are running a high drain device you need to set "After Charging cut-off" to "Standby". This will stop the inverter feeding the load for the remainder of the force-charge slot, preserving battery charge and ensuring your load is supplied with cheap rate electricity.
With it set to 'self-use' as you have seen once the battery reaches the charge cut-off point the inverter switches back to self-use and then feeds any load.
A very rough general rule would be to set cut-off behaviour to "Standby" for force charge slots and to "Self-use" for force-discharge slots.

Can I just ask "will the system stay on stand-by for the rest of the day or only until the timed slot ends?
Thanks again

It applies to the time slot period.gxaxrxy2025 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2026 10:36 am Can I just ask "will the system stay on stand-by for the rest of the day or only until the timed slot ends?
If you look at your advanced scheduler, there is a 'Global' setting for the base work mode (Self-use/ Feed-in...) this takes over when your time slots are not active. So if your 'Global' setting is for 'Self-use' then this would allow the battery to discharge.
At the end of the timed slot it should revert to whichever mode is set in mode scheduler as "Remaining Time Mode", normally "Self-Use"

My learning point for Off-Peak settings:
If you have high drain appliances coming on after you have topped up your battery
you need to specify Backup or Standby after Force Charge
Otherwise, the appliances will drain your precious top-up
