5 second updates in app / compatible firmware and inverters

Would I be correct in assuming my 'W6' datalogger is not compatible? The chart in the linked article lists the integrated Wilan, the Wifi 5.0/smart WB, and Wifi+lan/Wlan-WW.

It will depend on your serial number, my W6 starts 609W6*********
So it is a W6 aka Smart WB

Looking at the list on your link, I just need a FW upgrade from 1.04 to 1.08 for this to work (Inverter is ready to go)

Nice, I have the same one as you :-)

Perfect, I have put in request for the new FW, hopefully it get's near real-time.
I do have Home Assistant, but nice to have the app a little more responsive.
Re: 5 second updates in app / compatible firmware and inverters
Hello Wyndstryke,

I can confirm that my W6 aka Smart WB WiFi dongle has just had the v1.08 FW applied, and it is giving me 5sec data snapshots in the Fox Cloud 2.0 App.

FYI: Information for anyone that reads this
Fox Cloud Website v1 = Does not update in realtime (5s)
Fox Cloud Website v2 = Does update in realtime (5s)
Fox Cloud App 2.0 = Does update in realtime (5s)
Re: 5 second updates in app / compatible firmware and inverters
Perfect, thank you :-)

You are most welcome, and thanks for pointing it out.
I hope you get your FW done nice and soon.

Very frustrating, my ticket has been lodged since last Tuesday, and just shows ‘on hold’ and no response to requests to advise when it will be actioned.
A couple of friends with Fox kit see the same lack of support, its an area where they really need to up their game.

I always create ticket via sending email directly, never had an issue with them.
Did you send it via the Fox Cloud 2.0 App (that is where mine just go down a black hole)
Re: 5 second updates in app / compatible firmware and inverters
No it was sent via e mail as I’m aware of the black hole issue
Since I updated the ticket again this morning asking for an update they have this time responded stating they are swamped with requests and are processing them in batches

Usual issue for a lot of fast growing organisations, lack of resource in customer
service
Their mistake is not developing fast enough to allow user control and/or just rolling updates out in the background to stop the issue of announcing and then being swamped by requests for probably the most requested feature from users and creating user frustration.
It’s all about having the correct experience and resource in the right areas of the organisation plus the quality of their supplier/install partners varies greatly, which has a major impact on customer satisfaction

Understood, I was hoping you sent via email.

I remember Will putting out a recent Q&A video with someone from Fox UK, they are making many changes, one that should reduce tickets will be letting us do FW upgrades.

I wonder what percentage of tickets are FW upgrade requests, I suspect fairly high.

How did you get the FW updated so quick? Which email did you use to lodge a ticket? I used service.au@fox-ess.com and it's been more than a few days.
Re: 5 second updates in app / compatible firmware and inverters
It took a week to get the fw updated, on contacting Fox they stated that they were seeing heavy demand for upgrades due to the 5 sec update feature and updates were being done in batches.
I used the UK service email address.
Then registered and logged onto the service portal with the supplied ticket number and continued dialogue with Fox on there and they were very communicative.

Depending on your Region/Hardware, this might be rolled out to all in time, the ability to do you own firmware updates.

Thanks to CDubbs for supplying the following information.

It should be pointed out that this release of the app's firmware update option only covers the inverter firmware (master/manager AKA arm/slave), and does not cover the datalogger or battery firmware. So you might still need to get the datalogger firmware updated to get the 5 second refresh.

Fox have told me that they do intend to also add the ability to update the firmware of the datalogger and battery at some point in the future.

Incidentally it might be better to go via your original installer for the firmware updates, at least initially (given that it is the installer who is supposed to be responsible for it anyway, and also that the Fox support queues are long at the moment due to people asking for updates for the 5 second refresh...)

I've actually increased the refresh rate on the RS485/MODBUS from my home assistant installation from 10s to 5s and so far it has behaved perfectly. Although be aware of potential increases in database size.

However, even at 5s, it does not capture the momentary grid spikes when a load turns on or off. These are visible via my Shelly CT clamps which are refreshing at a 1s interval. Although these grid spikes aren't really important in the long run from an import/export payment viewpoint since they're so brief (a 2kW demand spike for 2s will be a tiny fraction of a penny, 0.03p or £0.0003).

It is a shame that they were not included with the system upgrade options, but I guess they will come in time as you say.
Thanks for the extra insight, this will help others for sure.
Re: 5 second updates in app / compatible firmware and inverters
One thing I have noticed since the upgrade on a iPad and iPhone, the app behaves correctly for a period of time, then the updates freeze, and needs a drag down with a finger to get it updating again.
The fact it happens on both devices, either means it’s an app issue or an Apple issue.
Anyone seeing this behaviour with an android device ?

And yes it needs the Datalogger at a certain level of forward as well. My logger is a WW version and the activity light is much more active since the update, sending packets from the inverter.

And like Wyndstryke, my Myenergi clamps and app is still more responsive to changes and shows when the Fox app is frozen, but hey, I’m not complaining, the Fox update is a massive move forward.

The Android version is lagging behind still, happens often.
Google Play store has not yet added the new build.
