We recently installed a Fox ESS 6kw Inverter with 7.47kw of panels.

Panels are equally split in two strings.

I did a small test last week when we had a very sunny day.

Running both strings it produce 4.5Kw.
Running individual strings, they produced over 3kw each.
Hook both up again and they combine down to 4.5kw as before.

I would have expected the inverter to run up to the 6kw mark and then start clipping excess.

What are your Master, Manage(ARM) versions?, the older firmware had more PV limitations.

When you say you were running both strings, were they connected to the inverter on separate PV1 & PV2 inputs, or are they both connected as a single string to PV1 input.

Are the strings both facing the same direction and angle, or are they facing different directions - there is an inverter setting to decide whether they are independent or parallel (normally you would choose independent).

Normally with panels on different roofs facing different angles, different shading etc.. you would set to independent, if all panels are facing in the same direction you can set to parallel. In independent mode each MPPT tracks it’s own string independently.
In parallel mode the strings track on the same MPPT which in ideal conditions can be more effective than independent.

Version Master 1.26
version ARM 1.42
Version slave 1.02

Strings are connect to PV 1 and PV 2.

Both strings facing the same way next to each other.

Ok using both PV inputs should have been more than capable of maintaining your inverters output - it could possibly be firmware. Fox don't publish release notes but they have uprated the string performance more recently.

I've just checked and the latest firmware is Master 1.31, Manager 1.48 ,Slave 1.03 - so best to raise a support ticket in the V2 app (click Me, Contact Us, Support) and ask for the inverter firmware to be upgraded.

Thanks, I have created a ticket and will give parallel a go.

The sun is avoiding us while the water tanks are getting filled up.

Will report back when we have a sunny day. (The Firmware update request is still pending.)
