Hi all,

We have 7.5kwh fox ESS battery and 4.1KW solar panels. Last few days, our FOX ESS battery started auto charging from 1-2 am (different times at night). We don't have force charge switched on, the battery isn't depleted below the MIN soc (from grid) level. It charges for 4-5 hours until 8 am. Usually it take 2 hours to charge the whole battery, but now it charges for much longer but the battery isn't still full. We are on a tariff that has flat pricing all day.

Anyhow, I am curious to know why it's doing that. Does it have anything to do with weather being colder now (battery is in the attic).

Thanks

It is indeed connected to low temperatures, the charge rate is badly affected when the temperature drop below 10C and it stops charging completely at 0C

If the battery temperature gets too low it occasionally turns the charger on at low power (between 500-1100w) to warm the batteries and maintain them which is what you are seeing.

Where are your batteries located ? - The batteries are capable of discharging down to -10C but they won’t recharge below 0C, and quite a few people have built an insulated enclosure (out of 50mm kingspan insulation board) which protects the batteries from the extreme low temperatures - there are a few posts on the forum here over the past few days that provide more information.
