Fox ESS EP11 10KWH battery shuts itself
Hi - my EP11 10KWH battery with H1 Inverter has shown error 234 and 194, with the inverter screen showing Battery voltage error and the battery after 30 mins of this shuts itself off and powers down. All firmware updated , latest app version.

I've cycled several start up and show down sequences per guidance from AI, have we any views as to what this can be - looks like a straightforward battery fault to me where the BMS is just shutting it off as its performing outside safe parameters. Any views or advice , I have raised a ticket with the installers as still under warranty

When it is powered off, have you tried to check all connections are tight enough?
What SoC is the battery reporting, does it respond if you discharge?
Re: Fox ESS EP11 10KWH battery shuts itself
Hi, thanks for replying, yes connections all seem tight, when its turned on the SoC shows 20% which was the level set to stop discharge in normal running, so there will be no further discharge, and anyway the battery has a red light on the side, plus the inverter shows these errors, and after 20 mins or so of this the battery shuts itself down.

Quick question there, is it the battery thats shutting itself down or is the inverter telling the battery to shut down as it can see these error codes ?
Re: Fox ESS EP11 10KWH battery shuts itself
One code is saying battery over voltage, other says a possible comms fault. So it could be that a cable has become broken, or the terminating resistor has failed.

Can you expand on your shutdown/start-up sequence as to how you do it?
Can you let us know the battery fault? You mentioned a red light, the lights on the side will indicate this.

Have your installers made contact yet?

Thanks - I've raised two tickets with the installers sending them screen shots and codes but not had response yet. So on battery, there was a red light on the side plus the green lights on what looks like the charge level was down to 1 green light. SOC on the inverter before the battery shut down showed 20%

The start up sequence was more Gemini than technical support, and went from shut down for 30 minutes to clear reesidual power to starting up the battery first by holding down the power button, then the big AC yellow turn knob, then the DC on/off knob on the inverter. That seemed to be a standard approach on general guidance.

None of the connectors seem loose but what should i try with that, wearing electricians gloves and pushing then in or breaking and remaking connection, checking for frays etc ?
Re: Fox ESS EP11 10KWH battery shuts itself
If you have your battery manual, then you can find out what the colour codes mean. Odds are it is what the Inverter is claiming.

Your startup sequence sounds fine, just AI can be stupid at times.

I would not unplug anything unless it is powered down fully, gloves for safety. I was thinking more about the data connector between the battery and inverter, it's networking cable... could be a broken wire, hard to say/test if not wired up in a standard networking configuration.

If it does power up, see if you can change your minimum SoC down to 10%... force a discharge session down to 10% and then allow it to charge up via self-use/charge as needed to 100% SoC to help it calibrate. Might take a few tries, assuming it stays stable long enough.
