Re: FoxCloud 2.0 Forest carbon disappeared
For awareness, I have raised a ticket with Fox ESS Support (ref. 74720) reporting this issue, and linking to this discussion thread
Re: FoxCloud 2.0 Forest carbon disappeared
I had an app update a couple of days ago (Android) and it has been working since then. Only a few days away from 600 now.
Re: FoxCloud 2.0 Forest carbon disappeared
Mines been back on for the last few days as well. Fingers crossed 🤞

Same here. Been back this week. I'm on 561g collected so far.
Let's hope it stays that way :P
Re: FoxCloud 2.0 Forest carbon disappeared
So I got a response from the support ticket I raised. Here's what they said:

The “Forest” feature in our software is currently undergoing an upgrade and enhancement. It will be launched soon with new functionalities. Please stay tuned — we appreciate your patience and look forward to bringing you the improved experience.

Well, let's see how 'improved' that experience will be. I guess we'll find out soon enough, though why the current iteration had to go through some availability issues first is anyone's guess.

I think it credits 1/10th of 'Yield-today', truncated. i.e., not just generation, but DC to AC conversion from the battery too. Mine generally seems to turn up in the morning.

Partly based on the fact that the only other system statistic it gives on the page is 'total yield'.

First tree purchased. It'll take a long time to build up my own spinney, never mind a forest...
Re: FoxCloud 2.0 Forest carbon disappeared
For me (5.2kw split array) it's either nothing (under 2kwh production) 2g c 2kw to 21kw) or 3g over that. (Max I've produced in a day is about 35kwh so might go up again beyond that.
Re: FoxCloud 2.0 Forest carbon disappeared
2g/3g Seems like a very small amount of Carbon daily for any system. Octopus says the C02 I've saved since joining them two years ago is equivalent to 878 trees, which is just over a tree a day, and works out at 1 tree for every 2kg of C02 they say I've saved.

Octopus seems to be somewhat generous, though. According to https://ecotree.green/en/how-much-co2-d ... ree-absorb a tree absortbs approximately 25kg of C02 per year (it points out this is a very rough average, as the reality has a lot of compex variables, but it works for our purposes).

According to https://www.rensmart.com/Calculators/KWH-to-CO2, 1KWh produced on the UK grid produces roughly 0.2kg (200g) of C02. By this logic, we should be getting a tree (or tree-year, I guess) for every 125 KWh generated by solar (or by charging the battery when the grid is full of power from renewables.)

I've generated 503KWh from solar since my system came online in late April, but I'm not even halfway towards a single tree in my Fox Forest. I've no idea where they're getting the values of the trees (600-1200g) or the daily 2g bubble from. I know it's for kids, but I can't see a forest-building game holding a child's attention when they have to wait almost a year for their first tree, and if it's not reflecting the real figures then it isn't that educational, either.

TL;DR: The virtual forest is a great idea, I just wish it reflected real C02 saved in relation to roughly-real tree C02 absorption.
Re: FoxCloud 2.0 Forest carbon disappeared
They're planting real trees with it, so it's not intended to replicate how much you have offset with your system (otherwise they'd have to be putting in 10s of thousands of trees a day).

I think it is linked to the 'yield' sensor, which basically measures how much AC or DC has been converted (in either direction). 4 or 5 MWh in the yield sensor seems to equate to maybe enough tokens to get a tree planted.
Re: FoxCloud 2.0 Forest carbon disappeared
Ah, that makes a bit more sense. In that case, it would still be good for the virtual forest to grow s bit more quickly, but the real one could be planting one tree for every 100 virtual ones, or something similar?
Re: FoxCloud 2.0 Forest carbon disappeared
Yeah, I'm not sure how much I trust 'tree equivalents' anyway. Every company that uses them seems to have different numbers. In fact, if you look at the main page in the fox app, and scroll to the bottom, 1 tree seems to be just about 1kg of CO2 there.
