Setup Energy Tariff in the FoxCloud Mobile App
Good morning all,

It's stupid question time again.

I followed iameccles instructions that he posted on youtube and thought, after many fumbles and re-attempts, to get it setup and given the <unmentionable> state of yesterdays weather was not surprised then to see no indication of any revenue.

And then today I go to the app and see that I have acquired the stupendous sum of €199.76. That's wrong, I thought and changed the currency to GBP (£), but now its £199.76 ! Now, I have no great faith in currency exchanges but for both the £ and the € to be exactly the same strikes me as very odd, regardless of where the 199.76 came from? And this is shown as appearing on the 6th with nothing on the 7th.

So my questions are: Is this a bug? or, more likely, what did I do wrong?

Any thoughts on this - any answers will be gratefully received and highly appreciated.

Best regards,

Derrick.

I haven't seen anyone else reporting bugs with the tariff section, but Fox ESS are making lots of changes at the moment.

I did a wiki article on how to put the tariffs in for the power plan I'm on, so it won't apply 1 to 1 but it might give you some hints all the same.

Hi evilbunny (what a picture, Bugs Bunny with horns!),

Thanks, I'll have a look.

Re: Setup Energy Tariff in the FoxCloud Mobile App
The symbol in this case has little meaning, or any bearing on conversion as there is none.
So could as easily be a radiation symbol etc.

What matters is the rates you input to the system, and it calculates from there.
I suspect you input say 25p for your tariff rate, when you needed say 0.25.

Mine has a big fat zero, as I found the numbers just don't match real calculations.
£0.00 :D

I use a spreadsheet I made to track solar output per month, add this up to a yearly figure.
I track import costs and create an average of the price paid per kWh as I have peak and off peak.
And I track EV costs seperatly to know how much the car is costing to run (I remove this from the ROI calculation)

So you can use the system Fox provide, but expect drift over the course of a year/lifetime.
If you unit rate goes up each year, I suspect the money made will jump up rapidly, as I think it applies the new rate to all the previous values.

And that'd still irk people like myself, just as the default Euro symbol did before I worked out how to change it :D

It has no option for daily connection fees either, which now is about all we pay unless we export. Our previous power plan had off peak power all weekend but the app can't handle that either.

It looks like you can have multiple tariffs settings, rather than changing or deleting existing ones, but not sure if it that would help considering the various redundant settings that do nothing.

And I'm still figuring out how we can plant half a tree.

Re: Setup Energy Tariff in the FoxCloud Mobile App
Thanks MaterialBarracuda48 and all the other replies,

Why would anyone think that putting a "LOOK !!! SQUIRREL!!!!!" symbol which has no real meaning is a good idea? I begin to wonder about those with system design responsibilities for the Foxcloud app.

I'll reset my PANIC!!! bit and re-enable the tariff I've set up and wait to see what happens next.

I had set 24.96 for buy and 0.12 for sell.

Arithmetic is one of my strong suits.

Exciting times ahead.

Best regards,

Derrick.
Re: Setup Energy Tariff in the FoxCloud Mobile App
I am sorry Derrick, you was on track for maybe £73,000 this year.
Anyhow, mistake corrected and now it should reflect reality a bit better.

Re: Setup Energy Tariff in the FoxCloud Mobile App
I put the decimal in the wrong place and it now seems I have to live with that mistake because, so far, there does not seem to be any means available to correct the error.

I take that as a word to the wiser than I. Be very careful in how you set it up.

Best regards,

Derrick.

Hello Derrick, what you can do is drop the Import value down to 0.01 for a while until it catches up to reality, at least that should work after a few days/weeks/months!

Once it matches what you have made, then you can set it back to correct normal value.

It was a reason why I gave up and set mine to 0, and do it manually in a spreadsheet.

Did you just edit the previous tariffs?

If so maybe try deleting and then creating new ones, I did that when the power plan changed and it seemed to take effect immediately.
Re: Setup Energy Tariff in the FoxCloud Mobile App
Thanks all.

I have tried removing and deleting the old tariff and setting a new one but the value recorded by the old one is persistent and I haven't found a way to amend or delete it.

Perhaps I'll take up the sedentary sport known as watching paint dry (while I wait for reality to match with what the cloud app thinks it is) - it may soon be in the Olympics, you never know with these things.

Best regards,

Derrick.

Maybe it's batched processed, I have noticed some things in the app only seem to update after the day finishes.
