Unexpected and unrequested firmware update 2 March 2026
Hello!

After losing power to my house (because it runs off the EPS output of my KH10.5) I discovered the inverter just had an update pushed to it which I did not request from my installer, nor from Fox, nor from the app itself (which only a week ago appeared the option to request an update manually).

It pushed me thusly:

Went from Manager 1.37 to 1.58
Went from Master 1.41 to 1.60
'Slave' unchanged at 1.01

This has never happned to me before (2.5 years on). I previously have emailed Fox UK support and requested an update.

Anyone else had this experience?

Is it correct 'slave' still sits at v 1.01?

I have a call in to my installer to see if he pushed it. Thanks for any insights!

Check the same question I asked about the Slave.

Re: Unexpected and unrequested firmware update 2 March 2026
Thanks for the link.

The strange thing is, after writing that, I noticed that the app update area shows that one "upgrade" is available and that is to take 'slave' from 1.01 to 1.02.

I haven't pushed that 'Upgrade Now' button yet but it is tempting so at least all three are up-to-date.

Oh, now I see that my data logger (W4 type) has an update available from 4.12 to 4.14. "Upgrade Now"???

<edit> I did it. Was quick and seems to still be working.

Are you on 'slave' 1.02 with your KH? I may push the button so at least I'm in control of the timing.

Yes I am on v1.02
Re: Unexpected and unrequested firmware update 2 March 2026
Cool, thanks! ... I figured since 1.02 is the listed current version and it was offered I should keep the versions in-sync with each other. So I pressed the update button in the app and it successfully updated. That update did not cause a full inverter reboot so it didn't cause problems. I'm not sure if it's the manager or the master that causes the full reboot which kills the EPS output.

Re: Unexpected and unrequested firmware update 2 March 2026
Makes sense that you are now up to date, at least mine has carried on working.
Re: Unexpected and unrequested firmware update 2 March 2026
I contacted my installer who said he did not push the update. So I guess FoxESS has started doing this themselves.

Since I run local control with Modbus and I don't need the Fox Cloud, I have decided to block that communication at my router. Easier than unplugging the datalogger but with similar results.

If there’s an update that I should get I can unblock it and request it from the app (or from my installer or FoxESS UK support).

I feel safer this way, from hacking (it is certainly possible) or malicious actions from inside FoxESS (who could be compelled by the CCP in a time of war, or any time they feel lke it, though obviously it would hurt their industrial exports), and also from the comparatively minor issue of a pushed update with no warning which powers down my house when the inverter reboots. Note - that happens to me because I run the house off of EPS. I think people who run the ’normal way’ would not notice the reboot.

Re: Unexpected and unrequested firmware update 2 March 2026
It happened to me the other day as well, like you I lost my EPS when the Master updated as it reboots the inverter - I am the user, installer and agent for my system so it could only have been Fox. I suspect because of all the issues with the latest app update and the scheduler incompatibilities with different inverters/firmware combinations, Fox are in the process of force pushing their latest firmware out to all users (whether you want it or not).
Definitely a warning for EPS users, I nearly pulled my datalogger out so it cannot happen again… still dwelling on that.
Re: Unexpected and unrequested firmware update 2 March 2026
Rather interesting if Fox pushed this through. I wonder if others will have the same treatment of pro-active rollout.

Probably ... supporting a wide range of installed versions would be tough. Maybe it will end up as a benefit in the long run.

Re: Unexpected and unrequested firmware update 2 March 2026
I see Dave posted up the same thing as you, well at least you confirmed it had to have been Fox doing it pro-actively.

I guess there was nothing on their website to suggest they are going to be rolling out updates? They seem to know how to piss off their users

We had a long wait between ordering an install and actually getting the install done due to a long list of things like grid approval, storms likely on install dates and so on.

I ended up upgrading 2 old UPSes with dead LABs in them to have 2x50Ah LFPs because the UPSes are 24v, due to different charging voltages the batteries only charge up to about 80%, so pros and cons.

So while we're on the EPS circuit for the light circuit and power point circuit, only appliances and lights would go out. :D but we'd suddenly import from the grid too, which would be a pain at the wrong time. :(

Thanks, I used to have a small UPS but the EPS has been very effective and ditched it a couple of years back when the lead acid’s needed replacing, but to protect the essential stuff when the inverter is rebooting I think it’s time to re-look at a small LFP powered UPS.

This came up the other day elsewhere https://au.ecoflow.com and they make LFP UPS

I just ordered one of these: https://uk.ecoflow.com/products/river-3 ... 2824856915

Claim to have switchover speed comparable with a UPS -- and cheaper than similar capacity ups -- and the batteries should last longer due to being LiFePO4.

Re: Unexpected and unrequested firmware update 2 March 2026
I grabbed a Bluetti AC180 for my UPS needs, I can confirm it works during a power outage.

That looks good for the price per kWh
