EP12s or EQ Stack
Hi All,

Currently looking at a new system. The propsal is 4 ep12 batteries with a 10KWh KH hybrid inverter. Its being installed inside a garage and the amount of space required is concerning me a little. Looking at taking over a whole wall nearly. Would there be any downside to using a stack of 9 ESS EQ4800 instead of 4 EP12s ? I'm in Ireland - temps rarely enough go below 0. The garage wouldn't be heated. The upside is a very neat stack of almost identical capacity.

Thank you!
Re: EP12s or EQ Stack
The EP12’s are obviously heated and so being in an unheated garage will operate better on the colder winter days, once the temp gets below 10C they would be very badly throttled unless heated. The EP12 has to be mounted to a wall so they do take up a lot of wall space but they don’t take up that much floor space but arguably more than the EQ4800’s.

The EQ4800’s are not heated, but you could build a kingspan shroud to fit round them for the winter months, many people do and it makes a huge difference to their cold weather performance.

Internally they both use the same LifePO4 battery technology and so removing the heater from it, if the EP12’s have extended warranty that is similar as are the performance guarantees, the main difference is footprint - 9 batteries are quite tall but they don’t take up that much space. Personally i’d go with the EQ’s and fit a winter insulation box.
