The Fox ESS app is showing me that a firmware upgrade is available for the manager of my HI G2 inverter. It says an upgrade from version 1.78 to 1.79 is available.
It looks like I can execute the upgrade myself by selecting the upgrade now button in the app. I’ve not done this before so I’m wondering if there are any pitfalls to upgrading via the app and what I can expect to happen. Does the upgrade require any interaction from me like restarts or does the upgrade take care of itself?
My niggling fear is that my system is running fine at the moment so I don’t want to break it with an upgrade that goes wrong.
I tend to operate with the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ mantra, particularly on a Friday afternoon.
Generally speaking the user firmware upgrade is ok to perform (albeit a bit clunky), if the system requires a restart it will do that itself - it can very, very occasionally cause corruption which will take your inverter off-line and it is mostly sorted out by contacting Fox support.
As this is only a minor update, if you are not having any problems I would wait until you have a spare hour or two early in the week (just in case you need Fox).
