Self Use Mode

Good morning all. We are new to the battery scene. I have my system on "Self Use" and my battery had not dropped below 35% for a month yet my monthly power bill just came in at $87. Why am I purchasing any electricity at all from the grid? Do I need to select another mode?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Moggy,
There can be several reasons for the purchase of energy from the grid.
As you haven't mentioned the size of your Inverter in kW, a possibility is that you are sometimes using more power than it can provide... example a 5kW inverter with 7kW load, would need 2kW pulling from the grid.
Depending on temperatures too, if the battery is cold it will not output the full power, again needing grid support (realise you are warming up in Australia about now)
Your grid CT clamp could be out of whack, or possibly a little loose. If out of whack (calibration of sorts) then it could be the gentle trickle of power that is adding up over a month. If loose, then it could be at times not sensing grid correctly and pulling power from grid rather than inverter, worth checking CT clamp is secure if fitted.
