If prioritising export, I understand that generation first powers the home then exports rather than charging the battery but if there's not enough solar to power the home, where is the shortfall prioritised from, grid or battery?

I'm wondering whether once the battery is fullish, its better to switch to prioritising export rather than have the system draining the battery a percent or 2 then topping it back up again. I'm assuming here that by bypassing the battery there would be an energy efficiency assuming of course that the answer to my first question is battery and not grid.

Self-use = PV -> Load -> Battery charging -> Export
Feed-in = PV -> Load -> Export -> Battery charging (when PV is greater than load & export limits)

Feed-in will pull power from battery before pulling from grid if your load is greater than PV generation.
So PV is 3kW, Load is 4kW, it will pull 1kW from battery.

Self-use will charge to 100%, drop to around 96% usually before it charges back to 100%.


How you program/operate your system will depend on your energy needs/situation. So you have to pick how you want to use your stored energy.
