Recently has a system installed no solar just the H1 5KW invertor and EP12 battery not intending to export at the moment, however when I asked for the G99 certificate they are telling me I don't require one. Because a battery only solution isnt classed as 'generating power device' in all my research and even in the schedule of works for the build it included the G99 application. My DNO has stated they think it should have but did say if the installer provides information on the system they can advise. I have currently given the installer some time to reply but next step is a 14 day notice of charge back. Anyone can either confirm what this installer is saying or had issues with retrospective G99 applications and could help in completing one should I need too.

Yes any AC coupled battery system must have DNO approval, if it is limited to 3.68kW it can be approved under a G98, but a 5kW system (whether connected to solar or not) must be pre-approved via G99 before connection to the network.

AIUI as the system is capable of generating power and connected to the mains then it still comes under G99 as it is capable of >3.68kW output even if this is not intended for exported. The DNO needs assurance that a protection mechanism is in place to control any export and that the system will not feed power back to the grid in the event of a power cut.
