meter or CT

Various videos suggest the meter / CT setting in the inverter should be set to CT
Upon install mine was set to CT and the installer noted that it was not supplying the house load, after consulting with technical support he reset it to meter and it immediately supplied the house load

Out of interest I just checked this again and setting it to CT does indeed prevent it from supplying the house load, back to meter and it does

so which is correct and why is mine different to this

In your system the setting for "meter" is correct. The meter is that at the top left of the EPS box, this in turn uses the CT installed on the mains input live cable inside the box.
The meter then sends data (RS485) to the inverter, removing the 20m distance limit from CT to the inverter.

Thank you....I thought as much 😁

That's the problem when people post helpful videos....they aren't always correct

To be fair to Will who produced the video, IIRC it was produced when there were issues where firmware upgrades were resetting the CT setting to "disabled". Also there are likely very few instances of installs using a meter instead of a CT or it is possible meter installs were not affected..

When installed the inverter wouldn't power the house from PV or battery, the installer made a call and was talked through the menus so it appears it may have been set to CT by default.....cant see why as it has a Chint meter in situ as supplied.....

I think the meters that are fitted to installs are a legacy of the MCS process, I am not 100%. but think it harks back to the FIT installs.

The generation meters fitted as part of UK solar installs are a legacy of the FIT system, The meter I was referring to is supplied as part of the FoxESS EPS box.
Bizarrely if a meter with a RS485 data output is fitted to a system then a separate generation meter of a type that is approved under MCS still needs to be fitted.
