I have a system (solar; inverter; battery) installed by Company A.

I want an extra battery and have a mortgage deal that will contribute towards this.

I can see how much the battery costs, and I have an idea of the manpower involved.... Company A quoted way too much and Company B gave an ok quote.

Is it a bad idea to have two companies involved? Obviously if something breaks they may try to blame each other, but I understand the warranty is with Fox themselves.

Within the app, does Company A and B have installer rights? Does one get rid of the other?

It’s not the best idea, a lot of people self install but if there is any way you could get company A to close the gap on B that would be the best approach.

The problem with warranty is your contract is with your installer, Fox manufacturer only ‘some’ of the equipment which has a warranty - but Fox would require an installer to come out and verify the fault is with their equipment before a warranty swap would be agreed (typically it’s more likely it will be installation issues not the equipment which is very reliable).
All of that effort has to be provided by an installer, either under their installation warranty or you will have to pay someone.

Can I ask a stupid question: if I self install another battery, and I need it to be a specific version to match the firmware of the chain, I'm just at the mercy of fox to do the update? Is that right and does that usually go to plan?

Your installer can do the upgrade, but likely won’t if you self install which leaves Fox support to do - I wouldn’t say at the mercy, they are usually very good and quick to respond (barring national holidays etc..(
