Hi I've received a competitive quote for a Solar PV system + Inverter and Battery Storage :

Solar Panels = Aiko Energy / 7.6 kW System Total Module Power / 16 x 475 Watt Panels (AIKO-A475-MCE54Mb) / 6,336 kWh per year

Inverter = FoxESS K Series Hybrid Inverter (KH7 to KH10.5) / 7kW of Inverter Power / Fox ESS 1 x KH7 / 10 Year Warranty

Battery = FoxESS EP12 Plus / 23.04kWh of Battery Storage / 2 x EP12 (11.52 kWh) Batteries

Does anyone in this forum have experience of the new EP12 / EP12 Plus batteries and how they are holding up, has any user had any issues with them and any issues with Fox ESS support ?

Regards
Tariq

The EP12 are brand new so no long-term data on them but the sister product the EP11 is now a couple of years old and I have never heard about any issues. Fox hardware is normally very solid.

If I were buying again, I would personally choose the K series inverter with an EP12 battery without hesitation so your choice is top end flagship and you'll be very pleased with it.

Will - I had another related question.

In terms of AI integration on Fox ESS systems - is it already somewhat established on some earlier systems or are Fox due to launch full AI integration at some point in the future in 2026. I'm reading that there is a partnership between Fox ESS and Capture Energy on this matter but no official launch date confirmed.

The reason for asking is that I've also got a quote for a Sigenergy Signenstor and Energy Controller system (18.04 kWh) which is less battery storage than the FOX Ess system, where they already have AI integration, but I'm hearing that at some point in the future. Sigenergy may start charging for the AI features.

Basically this is first entry into solar/battery storage area and doing as much research as possible before making my final decision on which of the two systems to go for.

If you are experienced with IT, there is the option of using your own optimising scheduler (for example, predbat on home assistant). Obviously no subscription costs, but it does have the up-front cost of your time & effort, plus getting the adaptor and a mini-PC or raspberry PI to run the software on.

For Fox, it uses RS485/MODBUS, and for SigEnergy it uses an ethernet connection.

An optimising scheduler like Predbat / SigEnergy AI / etc is useful for dynamic tariffs (for example, Octopus Agile), and for tricky tariffs (Octopus Flux, where you need to take the solar forecast into account).

For simpler tariffs an optimising scheduler isn't necessary (although it's great to see the real-time data direct from the inverter). My tariff is simple, and I wrote my own scheduler for it, but I do have predbat running in the background in read-only mode as a comparison. If I was to swap to Flux then I'd let predbat control things.
