DDSU666 and CT1 - do I need both?

Hi all.

I have a (H1-5.0.E), and I have noticed that the installer has attached a CT to the inverter port CT1 but has also connected a Chint meter to the inverter meter port ( a CT is also connected to the Chint meter). The manual says that a CT or a meter is required for export control and in the inverter menu the “meter” has been selected.

Does this mean that I can safely disconnect the CT that is directly connected to the inverter?

You don’t need both but you need to absolutely sure which is providing the metering for your inverter.

Is it possible the installer wired the CT1 pair up but never attached the CT clamp at the other end to the live feed, they may have intended to use it but the distance was too far for a CT clamp.

If you look in the inverter Settings you will be able to see what the inverter thinks is connected, go into Settings (password is 0000 - just press enter 4 times), Feature, Meter/CT, Set it will either say >CT< or >Meter_1P< - don’t change anything, just press the exit button (the far right button of the 4). This will tell you which it is using.

Hi thanks. Yes the setting says meter. Looking at the wiring at the consumer side I can also see two clamps. The black one can be traced to the Chint meter and the white one is goes straight to the inverter.

Looks they started with a CT clamp which is the default and comes with the inverter and then chose to change the a meter - that’s usually a distance or accuracy decision because the meter would be extra cost.

I think start by un-clipping the white one and leave it off for a while to make sure nothing is affected, and then remove it later.

Thanks for the help Dave.
I’ve removed the clamp that goes direct to the inverter from the live cable and I can still see the grid readings in the app and home assistant. I’ll leave it like that for now for a few days as you suggest and remove next weekend if all ok.

Hi. Ok so after weeks of not using the CT as the Meter is being used instead, i am now about to disconnect the CT.

However, i have noted that the meter also has a CT going to it. This means that the meter has been wires to use a second CT rather than measure the current directly via the N&L wires which look like dont actually pass through it.

So question now is, should i still use the meter which itself uses a CT or should I use the CT that connects directly to the inverter. I beieve these are only used for export control.

Given that my inverter in 5KW and my DNO certificates say i can export 5KW then i dont think i need this export control functionality anyway and hence dont think i need either the meter or the CT clamps. Is that correct?

Without a meter or CT a hybrid inverter won’t work, it has to have one or the other.

The meter can be direct wired or connected with a CT clamp as yours is, but it is still a meter as far as the inverter is concerned - the main reason to use a meter over an inverter direct wired CT clamp is that it can run over much longer distance.
