Grid import

Hi, I’m a new user but just wondering why I still import from grid, when the sun is out, battery has good charge and very little electric is being used in house (only standby items working)? I have 12 panels and EP5. Thanks!

There is always a small trickle recorded from the grid, when a large load switches on or off the system takes a few seconds to respond and has to compensate with power to or from the batteries and for those few seconds the grid is used as a fill in or to export.
In the middle of summer it's not so noticeable as there is plenty of PV generation from early in the morning to later in the night and so that does much of the heavy lifting.
You shouldn't be seeing more than 1kW a day, usually less, but on the latest generation of inverters (Gen 2) there is an installer setting that allows the bias point to be changed (called grid compensation) - this uses a bit more battery power so that the inverter always pushes back a small amount towards the grid which can reduce the grid consumption further - speak to your installer about that.

Thanks Dave.
Wish I could show you on my app but I don’t know how to post pictures yet.
PV 0.65kwh - house load 0.19kwh - battery charge 65% - 15w still coming in from grid.

I wish I could understand this, it’s now sending 49w back to grid even though the battery is only 65% charged. More of a bummer at moment as I’m not set up to be selling back to grid yet either!

Don’t forget that 15W really is nothing, not even a margin of error -your CT clamp is at best 1 to 2% accurate so don’t get hung up by figures that small - you need to look at your statistics i.e. how much do you import from the grid per day.

Ok, thanks again Dave.
