We are pleased to announce the partnership between the Fox ESS Community and
Capture Energy – giving our UK members early access to their free, AI-driven, automated battery optimisation app.
Their software, [Capture AI], optimises Fox ESS systems, automatically managing your battery based on your electricity tariff, forecasts of home usage and solar generation, and live market signals, enabling you to:
- Buy low, sell high without lifting a finger – powering your home with the cheapest energy
- Earn additional revenues for helping stabilise the grid by engaging in local flexibility markets
- See your savings add up in a simple and sleek dashboard
Several Fox ESS community members are already using Capture Energy’s platform to automate their batteries – and are seeing strong results. Users are unlocking 50% more savings from their batteries.
[Capture AI] connects directly through your Fox API key and starts optimising immediately.
To get started, just fill in the form and book a short onboarding call at the end – where the team will get everything set-up:
https://form.typeform.com/to/TbXHRkyc
This is an early access rollout for our Fox ESS UK customers, and we are keen to gather your feedback and improve the experience for the wider community ahead of our public launch.

So if I understand it correctly, this will be for both Grid Flexibility services and also for tariff optimisation. Does this work for any tariff or just Octopus Agile?
If I'm already controlling my inverter via home assistant to optimise my tariff (E-on Next Drive), can I use this just for the grid flexibility functionality alone?

Hi @wyndtryske. Correct – the app aims to provide both of these services, with the former; grid flexibility services, dependent on where you live in the UK. It works with all leading tariffs, both time-of-use and variable tariffs like Agile.
Our system works holistically to provide both of these services completely hands-free for our users, so it is not designed to be used alongside home assistant.
Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Can I ask about the business model? Presumably the app costs a bit to run (if it has an AI backend) so how does Capture make its money from this app?

Question, if you have a new install with FoxCloudv2 access how do you get your API key?

you need to use V1, API keys aren't in V2 yet and v2 is technically still in beta.

Presumably using a share of the flexibility services revenue.

I don't look to have an account for v1 as I have only had the system for a month, my current credentials don't seem to work.
Should I just create a support ticket and ask for the info?
Thanks
Nigel

Would there be any scope for providing the grid flexibility services side of it as an API at some point in the future? You'd still get your revenue, and it could be integrated into home assistant for systems like predbat to use (predbat would schedule charge and discharge etc appropriately, using both the tariff and the flexibility reward as input. Supports pretty much any tariff, any supplier, and many different inverters). I guess you'd need to validate the imports and exports by being added as a DCC Other User.

Correct! Allowing us to keep the app free for our users.
