Hi all,

new to solar and waiting on my install date all going well when I get my g99 appoval.

I just wanted to check my current plan should work and then ask my installer to install the modbus connection when installing my inverter and battery.

I am think of asking them to wire up a waveshare usb to rs485 which will connect to a rasberry pi 4 which I am planning on wallmounting in my garage near the KH7 inverter. I will then control it from the home assistant dashboard from my desktop in my office.

With being new I just wanted to check I wasn't missing anything or if I have made a mistake in my plan for setting this up.
Thanks for your help.

That sounds like a good plan, the waveshare USB will be plugged into the Pi4B and the A/B connections wired to the RS485A/B on the meter/ct connector of the inverter so it makes a lot of sense for the installer to do that whilst they are there (I would hope they are quite familiar with doing that).

The Pi4 will require a plug top power supply to provide it's power and so you would need to have a socket close to the inverter to do that. Alternatively you can extend the length of the RS485 pair if you use good quality cable such as cat5/6 from the inverter and run it to a location where there is a suitable mains socket for the Pi4's power supply.

Thanks for reply good to know it should work,

There is a socket for power a couple of meters away so just need to get a longer usb c power cable for the rasberry pi or run a longer cable from the inverter to the rasberry pi.
