I've got myself an Elfin EW11A and I'm planning to wire it up to my H1-G2. Managed to shut down inverter, disconnect and disassemble the RS485 16-pin connector to take a look and (after a little scare with the RCD tripping, lots of error codes and zeroes everywhere) get it all back up again without breaking anything. The inside of the connector looks like this:
The wiring guide says:

Your installer may have left you with some pins into which you insert your wires. These pins are approximately 2cm in length and have red ends. Insert your wires into the red ends of the pins and the pins into the connector.

Except... they haven't. Now what? Are those orange things just spring clamps - can I just pull them back and stick the RS485 wires in?

Update: after looking at viewtopic.php?t=1658, I found a cable I had lying around with a couple of flat crimp pins and wired it up to the Elfin.
The problem is, the communication connector just doesn't seem to hold the pins at all and they slide right out again.

Those are push connectors on the new gen2 plug. You simply need to push the orange tab in, insert the wire and release and it should have a good strong connection. Check the guide to confirm the pins but I believe it's pins 3 & 4 https://github.com/nathanmarlor/foxess_ ... ring-Guide

Thanks - I did try pushing the orange tabs in with a tiny screwdriver, but it didn't seem to grip; maybe the pins I have aren't long enough. I'll try again with (longer) bare wire.

OK, getting further.... I can connect the bare wires in to the connector, but now the EW11A is not powering up correctly. I've made a power cable from an old USB cable, and I'm trying to power it through the inverter's USB port.

When I plug it into a normal USB socket (PC or house plug socket), the green light flashes a few times and then goes solid, and the device appears on the wireless network. But when I plug it into the socket on the inverter, the green light comes on solid and there's no wireless connection. I wonder if the inverter's USB power supply is giving it enough juice to power on correctly.
