Stop battery discharge (pull from grid) under heavy load.

Looking for HA automation ideas to stop battery discharge under heavy loads.

Im trying to figure out how when the oven is turned on, I can pause discharging from the battery short term and draw from the grid instead. If the oven is on, typically it would be for 45 minutes minimum and then back to batteries, unless the high load is still present, remain on grid.

Help and guidance appreciated on suitable triggers and actions

Conceptually, this is relatively straighforward, assuming to have a HA instance and an integration that gives you direct control over your inverter.

Assuming both of these, you can install a Shelly power meter on the circuit your oven runs from, and when the power value from that goes above whatever value you set, you can then set a charge period to stop battery discharge. Or you could use the ability to set discharge current to throttle it right back so there would be a small draw from the battery but most of the load would come from the grid.

I have opted for a simpler solution, reducing the Max Discharge from 40a to 20A. When the oven is being used the load is shared. Does this seem sensible?

Hopefully reducing the load will benefit the batteries long term.

With "only" two batteries, reducing the current they have to supply is going to be good for them, yes.
