I am not an electrician! But this mod was done by a licensed electrician, though more or less my 'design' as faciliated by prevoius posts in this thread -- thanks again to all!

Since my set up was originally designed with full house load (minus car charger) connected via EPS connection of inverter, to run off batteries when the grid is down and inverter isolates from the grid, I had an earth rod installed.

I think it is important to have an earth rod installed when running house loads from a generator since without the grid there is no earth. The chassis of the generator seems to be tied to the ground connector in the 32A generator output connection.

Generator has floating neutral so neutral and ground of generator are tied where they connect to the changeover switch.

I did not, and I belive my installer did not, reduce any safety settings in the inverter for this mod, and when I run on generator I get no warnings -- the KH10.5 accepts the generator as if it were the grid.

That means of course, you can easily fry the generator if the inverter starts to export / feed in power! One should manually change the maximum feed in wattage/current to ZERO before connecting generator. I would further advise very cautious use (better no use) of any high draw appliances (oven, hob, toaster, AC units) because I have noticed that when these loads come OFF, the inverter will often kick back some power to the grid briefly as it balances (even with export set to zero).

My intended use of the generator is only for long emergency power outages, where there is not enough solar to store in our batteries to run the house continuously (like in Winter). Hopefully this situation may never happen. But if we decided to go heat pump and remove the gas boiler, this would add peace of mind in the winter. My plan would be to use the generator to charge up the house batteries in the evening when the sun has gone down. In my brief preliminary testing, I could charge the FoxESS batteries when the inverter is supplied by the generator -- but of course you have to set the Inverter charge current to something low and suitable for your generator's capacity.
