Settings on inverter from Factory
I'm wondering if the default settings are:
1. Only export if battery is full
2. Discharge battery before import from grid

I don't want to charge the battery from the grid as I don't have a multi tariff account
It is in my advantage to use as much as possible of what I generate
I am on the original FIT rate
Re: Settings on inverter from Factory
From what you have said, it sounds like you have another solar inverter (on FiT) and the Fox is running as a battery storage system - or do you have PV also connected to the Fox ?.

As a battery storage system, the default operating mode is Self-Use which will use any excess solar to charge the battery until full, and likewise when there is no solar it will discharge the battery to power the house loads to avoid grid import.

The battery shouldn’t charge from grid unless you set it to, but there may be the occasional small amount of grid draw if the batteries reach minsoc.

The inverter can be set to operate in different ways, can you explain what you would want it to do and also provide a bit more information about which inverter / battery models you have.
Settings request for inverter/battery
Hi,

Just had a PV system installed

Inverter : Fox Ess 10kw model (KH10)
Version master : 1.30
Version slave : 1.01
Version ARM : 1.22

Battery : Fox Ess 20kw model (EP11 x 2)
Version BMS : 1.005

Can you please tell me the mode scheduler setting for my PV system where I can

1. force discharge my batteries between 2100 - 2300 every night for anything above 20%. I want my batteries to hold 20% at any point of time, so they don’t fully discharge.

2. Force charge my batteries between 0000 - 0700 every morning, all the way to 100%

I had got in touch with Fox and they remotely applied the below settings but nothing is happening. More so the readings on the app have gone wonky. Attachments

Re: Settings on inverter from Factory
The scheduler settings look ok for a force charge between 00:00 & 07:00 and a full power discharge between 21:00 & 23:00 (note your battery may run out and you end up using grid power which might be costly).

Is there a reason why you have chosen 20%, if you don't have EPS installed it should be set to 10% as this is what the batteries are rated and warrantied for and the 10% is the buffer the LFP batteries need to maintain them for the best lifecycle.

But just as a start your firmware is quite old, I would recommend you get that upgraded - latest versions are Master 1.43, Manager (ARM) 1.42, Slave 1.02.

Your installer can (and should) have done that as part of your installation - it can be done remotely, or the firmware upgrade can be requested from Fox directly.

Secondly it appears that your CT clamp has stopped working, has become disabled or disconnected which is why you are getting negative load values - without that the Inverter cannot calculate the house load and the battery will not be used to - again I think you need to call your installer and get them back to check that.
Re: Settings on inverter from Factory
Thanks for the update Dave.

Can you tell me exactly what i need to change, I am very new to this so don't know which settings to update on the app?

Also I don't know what an EPS is, so cant confirm or deny if it is installed.

Is there anyway I can initiate the firmware upgrade?

Also I need the battery to always retain 20% so that if it doesn't charge up during off peak hours from the grid, as i also charge my EV car during then, then at least I will have 20% left for the next day which is sufficient for my use.

You mentioned the current schedule is set for completely draining the battery, can you please advise on the changes I need to make in the mode scheduler.
Re: Settings on inverter from Factory
If it continues to show a negative load your CT has either stopped working or been disabled and there's nothing you can do on the app, you need to know if a CT or a meter has been fitted - if you know what has been fitted a CT for instance, you can check in the inverter Settings, Feature, Meter/CT to see if it has become disabled but if you don't know you will need your installer back as it's just as likely it could be a cabling fault.

If your installer can't update your firmware you can request an upgrade via the app in 'Me', 'Contact Us', 'Support', fill out the description and ask them to update your inverter firmware.

EPS is an Emergency Power Supply and allows some of the house loads to continue to be maintained should the grid fail - it's quite a lot of wiring (and cost), and normally set the System Reserve a bit higher than minSoC to act as a reserve should the grid fail - but i'm sure you would know if it had been fitted so you can discount that.

It is possible to wire the EV charger in such a way so that it cannot draw from the home batteries, this is called a henley block and splits the power before it goes to the house/inverter so any EV draw will not be seen as house load - you'll find a few posts here about that (usually Zappi's).

On the Force Discharge schedule you would be better raising the FDSoC to (say) 30% that way it will stop discharging to the grid when the batteries reach 30% and as your minSoC is set to 20% the remaining 10% will be used to power the house.
Re: Settings on inverter from Factory
Is there a number i can reach out to you for a Facetime session. I do have CT clamps (1 for the EV charger and 1 for the Solar system). But i think the DNO folks messed up the direction when they upgraded the fuse.

Additionally, the inverter meter shows as offline on the Foxess portal.

Regards. thanks for the messages
Re: Settings on inverter from Factory
Hmm, as it is such a new install I really do think you should get your installer back to look at this for you, it could be CT direction or a cable break either are very possible if things have been changed recently,

I'm afraid i'm in and out of hospital at the moment (long story) and not easily in position to do facetime, but you'll see a lot of posts / videos etc.. from William Eccles who is the admin and founder of the forum - he now runs a business managing the support peoples solar system because of issues such as this for (in my view) a very reasonable fee of £10 a month or £100 per annum ) - if your installer is non responsive i'd strongly recommend you contact Will - details of his services are here https://ecclessolar.com/digital-services/
Re: Settings on inverter from Factory
Really sorry to hear that, I hope it all turns out well with the hospital.

I will look up Eccles. Thanks again for the prompt responses. Wishing you well
