Re: EPS: "Level 4.5" - Whole House Automatic (AIO)

Hi Guys - I found this post very helpful in pinning down the issues for my plans to implement EPS. I may be being dumb but is there a flaw to using an existing low cost solution in the form of 3pole ATSs being offered from China etc e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/315276963374 Can't 2 poles be used...

Re: So - what if I want to get a bigger inverter?

Yes the schedule/strategy periods cannot be set over modbus, only via the web/app (and ironically via the openAPI interface). I asked their UK product manager when the scheduler was released whether they would become available over modbus and he said yes, but couldn’t say when that would be (that wa...

Can you post a picture of the power/energy flow from your app, the one that shows how much power is going where.

It looks like this

Good to hear you are progressing with this, that’s an interesting choice - I occasionally wonder what decision I would make here as well as i’ve got used to so much information from all the sensors and have the same thoughts as you about the updates. If you ever need a 3rd string - I think you’ve li...

Glad you have it up and running, yes as you say the Fox user manual is more of an install guide, you have to work through the help available on here and the facebook forum ‘guides’ - so that’s another learning curve :) When you are in contact with Fox directly they are usually excellent with their a...

Re: How to stop exporting to the grid please

If the system is in self-use it shouldn’t be exporting to the grid at all if your batteries need charge, it charges the batteries first and then exports any remaining. I think we need to go through some of your settings to make sure that it is working the way it should. The first thing to check is i...

Re: Error code 240 "Manger fail to detect CT"

I didn’t really want to speak out against your installer, a CT or meter is critical to the systems operation and must be connected securely. I have not heard of this CT clamp transmitter being used on a Foxess system, I am told the Givenergy system will work but from what you have said the error you...

Re: Draw from grid

Great, glad you have it all working, the KH is a great inverter 👍 Green lights are good, what you are seeing is the master polling the slaves and each poll shows a flash, with a corresponding flash from each of the slaves, it’s a bit like a pack heartbeat. As Calum said, grid tied hybrid systems hav...

Re: BMS dip switch

The dip switch should be set to 3 for 5 batteries, but if it were set to 0 - the BMS would never have known about more than 2 batteries as it wouldn't have been polling them. Fortunately the packs look after their own internal balance, but the pack won’t be balanced properly as the batteries need t...

Re: Error code 240 "Manger fail to detect CT"

Just thought I would ask if that photo shows a R485 meter module? That’s a modbus CT clamp, similar in that it converts the CT clamp measurement to a modbus RTU serial data stream that can be transmitted over distance. An RS485 meter measures the power directly a bit like a smart meter, it then enc...

Re: Need Help with Soft Shutdown to PC

Can you confirm what kind of inverter you have i.e. a Hybrid H3, KH etc or PV inverter such as T or R series and also what model it is, many of the PV inverters don’t have external modbus capabilities.

One last precisation: Timing of the operation of the island mode isolator and N-E bond relay should comply with Regulations 431.3 and 537.1.5 of BS 7671. This requires: The N-E bond relay to be interlocked, or mechanically linked , with the island mode isolator , [...] This means that the potential...

Re: EPS: "Level 4.5" - Whole House Automatic (AIO)

I think you have summarised the failure modes very well (what do you do for a living, are you HAZOP trained by chance ?), and there are methods for you to alert yourself to floating neutral/earth, interlocks or to detect the earth fault and force a bond directly to the earth rod, but with complexity...

You can't appreciate how thankful I am for your answer. I just spent some time looking into what you just explained and I have so many questions now 😂 - Why shouldn't I permanently connect the EPS Neutral to ground at all times? It’s illegal (in the UK) to connect an off-grid system to any of the i...

Re: Temperature of system housed in loft

Ambient temperature is the internal temperature of the inverter, InvTemperation is the temperature measured on the rear cooling fins. One follows the other, the InvTemperation (fins) increases when the inverter is working hard, i.e. lots of solar generation, battery charging or heavy discharging - w...

Re: EPS: "Level 4.5" - Whole House Automatic (AIO)

Interesting little project, assuming the timer will operate in a delayed on mode I can see nothing wrong with the functionality. You have an earth rod fitted which is correct, the one omission is significant and can be dangerous - you *must* create a Neutral to Earth bond when the grid is disconnect...

Hello everyone! This morning I decided I was going to simulate a power cut to test out the automatic switch over of my EPS system, and I'm glad to say it worked great. I wanted to leave it do its things for a few hours to explore this "EPS Mode" a little before turning the grid on again, ...

Re: Error code 240 "Manger fail to detect CT"

I doubt CT over LoRA would work, but the hard wired connection should have, personally i'd have got that working if at all possible - less things to go wrong. If they are talking about a meter then they will replace the CT clamp with an RS485 meter that measures the power instead (such as Chint or E...

Re: Error code 240 "Manger fail to detect CT"

The hybrid inverter won't operate without a CT clamp as it cannot measure and balance the loads. The CT clamp that comes with it is connected by a 10 metre cable, the CT clamp itself clips round the live tail of your smart meter, and the other end is wired into the CT/Meter connector of the inverter...

Which app are you using, V1, the latest V2 or Energy Stats ? V2 and Energy Stats (by Al Priest) show the most information, so i'd recommend if you're not using them to try them. Is your work mode set to 'Self Use' ? I can see you are using the V1 of the app - are you able to switch to the newer V2 app, that is much easier to use and you will be able to see the work mode at a glance. The thing to mention is that the screen you are looking at is not real time, it's a snap sho...
