Zappi charger and Octopus Intelligent Go - stop battery discharge?
Just bought an MG ZS EV and having a Zappi charger installed on Thursday. Hoping to switch to Octopus Intelligent Go and the fixed export at 15p/kwh.
I have just read the thread from @DaveFoster https://www.foxesscommunity.com/viewtopic.php?t=358 about zappi and batteries on the old 2 force charge ...

Re: Smart plug with temperature sensor or alternative?
Thanks very much for the info. I do have a couple of Sonoff controllers, in fact come to think of it I did have one of their temp probes and a switch (old version of TH16). Unfortunately I killed it due to moisture, I was controlling a small oil rad in my van last winter and I didn't protect it well ...

Smart plug with temperature sensor or alternative?
I have a couple of situations where I would like to switch on a heater based on temp. I thought that a smart plug would be ideal but I can't seem to find one that has a temperature sensor in. Does anyone know of such a smart plug?
Alternatively is there a 'wifi' capable temperature sensor that ...

Re: Battery Insulation/heating?
OK so it's not even been 24 hrs since I fitted my insulating box and the battery temps are so much better. After a full charge overnight the cell temp was 28.7C and at 12 midday today it's down to 21C so not too bad at all. The batteries charged at their full rate which is great. Looks like a box of ...

Re: Battery Insulation/heating?
Cheers everyone.
I nipped out to Wicks as they had smaller sheets that would fit in the car, the kingspan they had was either 2400 x 1200 or 1200 x 450 which would have been better it it were 1200 x 600.

Battery Insulation/heating?
I have 2 x hv2600 batteries in my loft and they are getting too cold to charge and discharge.
I was thinking of making an insulated box out of 50mm of polystyrene. Is this ok or is there a better way?
Cheers for any suggestions.

Re: Batteries not charging - help
The grow tent seemed to do the trick. Admittedly only got installed in the last two days of the cold weather but batteries charging and discharging as they should.
I’m keeping an eye on the battery temps and staying steadily above 13 degrees.
What smart plug with temperature sensor did you ...

Re: Force Charge/Discharge on AC1 / Intelligent Octopus Go integration
During the Winter Cash back system I'm assuming that as I'm on Flux and use virtually nothing from the grid during 4 to 7pm I can't really 'earn' anything.
Reading this am I correct in assuming that if I allow some discharge to the grid I can 'earn' from the scheme? I'm on 1.70 fw so can ...

Thanks for that, I will probably get one soon and have a play.calum wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 3:15 pm Something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/296038491368 with an additional SSD if you need more storage would do a grand job.

Re: Ideal temperature for HV2600 battery bank?
Thanks @Dave Foster. I might set up cell temp sensors for once an hour over a longer period. Cheers.
Thanks @Calum. I keep meaning to buy a low powered pc but there are so many out there it's tricky to know which one to go for. I would only want it for HA and a backup file server.

Thanks to both of you, great info.
I can't seem to see cell or battery temp on HA for back in the summer - no idea why but seems to only go back about 10days but generation goes back to summer!
I do remember early this year the batteries wouldn't charge properly as they where too cold.

Re: Ideal temperature for HV2600 battery bank?
Nice neat battery box and fan setup.
Have you used the battery box over a winter yet? Did you find the 50mm of polystyrene worked well enough to keep batteries warm enough to accept decent charge?

Re: PV Oversizing
I do keep meaning to have a try with the other integrations to see if they give more options.
The FoxESS Modbus integration (see link in my signature) is a much more mature thing than the StealthChesnut one (no slight on anyone when I say that - it's just had a lot more development put into it ...

Re: PV Oversizing
Our max output has been 3.9Kw which I assume is the inverters max output - I was expecting a max of 3.68Kw.
3.68kW is the inverter's maximum output (i.e. the amount of AC it can produce from PV/battery). The maximum PV input is 4.68kW, which is the limit on both battery charging and inverter ...

Re: power from panels not as expected
Don't use your hose as the calcium and/or magnesium dissolved in water will dry on your panel and cause 'water marks'. Much better to wait for the rain to wash off the dust.

Re: Is it too early in the year to expect full output from my panels?
If you have a 5Kw inverter then that's about it's max although you might get a little over it won't go much above.
In my opinion the main reason for having more panel KW than Inverter is during the rest of the year when you don't have as much sun, with more panels you will be getting a higher ...

Re: Immersion heater controller
Do the maths first. On flux you can export at 22p/kwh where gas is 10p/kwh. Also if you heat the water between 2am and 5am then it's 8p/kwh in electricity.
So even during the day if you heat the water by gas instead of electricity you are saving 11p/kwh as you will be exporting the excess ...
