Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

Ha! Good to know they are not checking for nuclear radiation then!

Other thing is that it has been set up as a single string.

Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

Update. So on a positive note the installation company sent an electrical inspector to the house rather than someone from the installation team. The inspector was not satisfied with the quality of the wiring and a few other regulatory issues which he has reported back on so they get remediated. From ...

Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

Installers are coming out tomorrow afternoon so I’ll report back! Yes when I say I can see the panels in the sun I am referring to the four on the south elevation. Tomorrow I’ll find out what they have done regarding the string (did they do it as one string etc) and what optimisers I have set up. Wh ...

Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

The thing that concerns me is that my neighbour with a 6Kw solar array is consistently harvesting 10Kw+ per sunny day and that includes yesterday. I harvested 0.7Kw yesterday in the bright sun! I totally get that we have different set ups etc but surely 0.7Kw on a very sunny day isn’t right! I can s ...

Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

Unfortunately I don’t have anyone with a drone. I do suspect it’s something to do with the way the string and optimisers have been set up and Callum’s post is interesting .. as is your comment about clouds!

Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

Thanks all, very interesting! We have quite a large plot with trees but the trees don’t actually come into play from midday onwards as the sun has moved around them. We have a chimney that casts a shadow on the first panel early on but then the sun clears that too. It was because of the chimney that ...

Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

Ok.. so the installer doesn’t want to do a site survey until at least the end of January to see if things start to improve. Meanwhile we are seeing on average a total of 1Kwh solar generated per day. Today the sun is blazing down on the panels and the app is showing me that we are generating 0.1! My ...

Re: Energy Stats App by Al Priest

Dave, have a look at this description of the “yield today” value in settings (screenshot below).

It explains it is using a formula and my toggle is on PV Only (not Fox).

Re: Energy Stats App by Al Priest

Yes the Fox v1 app is showing total yield of 2KWh.

The Energy Stats app “yield today” figure is lower still and looks to me to be solar only.

Re: Energy Stats App by Al Priest

Dave, this appears to be different. I completely agree the PV yield figure appears to be pointless but this new field appears more accurate and doesn’t appear to include battery. I’ve attached the screenshot below.. see the figure at the very top of the screenshot. This was taken just as the solar st ...

Re: Energy Stats App by Al Priest

I’ve just noticed today on the Energy Stats Home Screen (power flow screen) that there is a “yield today” figure under the solar sun at the top of the screen. Is this new and is this an accurate PV solar generated today figure? It’s a different value to the “solar generated” number on the Stats tab ( ...

Re: Battery at 100% for four days!

I had an issue whereby the Energy Stats app was showing zero capacity left after the Fox API issues, however my wife’s app displayed correctly. To fix mine I went to settings and recalculated battery capacity and that worked. The Fox app didn’t have that issue, only the Energy Stats app and it was ob ...

When I downloaded the FoxCloud2 app I intentionally didn’t delete Energy Data app in the hope it might start working again!

FoxCloud v2 observations

Just downloaded this today. Is this the best they could come up with? I mean really? Still no daily PV generation. Why not?? The monthly graphs with solar generation are not accurate as it’s still including the battery I’m assuming which renders the data useless as clearly this data is NOT solar gen ...

Re: Night Rate Tariff

Works for me yes.

I’m on Intelligent Octopus and I can fill my batteries up and charge the EV at the same time. The Fox app shows me drawing 9.5 KW from the grid whilst both are filling up at the same time.

We only fill our EV up once a week usually and I was a little apprehensive but no need.

Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

Thanks Dave. I’ll get the installer to check it all over when they get in touch. I’ve got HA set up with HACS on the new Green box and it is now pulling in the info. I’m not sure it’s giving me anything extra that Energy Data isn’t. I’ll try and set a few dashboards up tomorrow but I have a feeling o ...

Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

Three screen grabs.

1. PV1 Power and volt.
2. PV2 Power and volt.
3. PV Power (which is identical to PV2 Power. PV1 Power is zero).

Re: Expected PV power in winter sun?

Thanks all. I’ll do some reading of the web based Fox ESS site. My new HA Green has arrived so I want to set that up with the basic installation this weekend. I’ve ordered the part from Amazon to take the data from the modbus connection but I’m away next week so it will probably be the week after. Re ...

Expected PV power in winter sun?

I have a brand new install this week and I’m disappointed with the power coming through the solar array (8 panels facing south, south west with 8 optimisers). We live on the Berkshire/Surrey border and the weather has been pretty sunny the past few days. My friend who lives near by has 15 panels and ...

Re: iOS App, where do you view battery capacity? Newbie question!

Thank you Dave.

That now estimates just 0.300 KWh. Earlier today that box had 0.600KWh in it when the solar was working mid afternoon. Strange that it’s decreased!

Might take a few days to get to grips with this!
