Force discharge help
Hi

I am currently force discharging my battery but there is only 1.x kw going into the grid and a current load of 3.x kw.

Is this screenshot correct i though the whole 5kw would be exporting Image

If you are Force Discharging at 5kW the discharge will be limited by the maximum power of your inverter (i’m assuming this is a 5kW inverter?) - the AC power is firstly used to power the house and any excess will go to export - if your house load is 3.21kW then the 1.91kW being exported is correct.

What i meant was the house load at that time was the dead of the night so the load would of been usual 0.21 which is what it is when everything is off... my question is that the amount of load it's using to perform the discharge... so actually it's not discharging all the stored energy a lot of it is being wasted in performing the action is that right. There were no appliances or lights or anything consuming power when the discharge happens

Do you have anything on overnight like a water heater ?, if you have something that detects export and uses it like a Zappi EV charger or EDDI water heater as soon as they see export above a certain level they will use it - 3kw is suspiciously like an immersion heater.

In the app, if you swipe left can you post the graph at the bottom of the page that shows what is happening over the same time period and include the battery soc at the bottom - it should help to diagnose.

I have a Solar I Boost which heats the tank before export? could it be triggering that? even though its outisde of its programming hours?

Ahh yes it’ll be the iboost, the timer doesn’t affect it and as soon as it detects excess power it thinks it’s solar export and will use it - i’ve read a couple of threads from people where they either disable it, or have fitted an isolator timer that turns it off when they want to export.

Ah right cheers that explains why the water was extra hot this morning... I suppose if its "hot" then it will already be at temp when the early morning programming starts so it won't try and reheat twice. And then it will export. Cheers for your advice

Hi Dave,

This is getting a bit annoying as the export is constantly directed to heating the hot water when I don't want it to, at the moment the iboost is powered from a fuse spur so can I use the below to set a timer on the fuse spur so it only switches the iboost on for example during the off peak rate and then off during the day so I can maximise on export...
A lot of the times the excess hot water is not required due to low occupancy and one heat up during summer is enough, its directing force discharge to the HW and a lot of energy daytime exporting is going to the HW whereas one 2hr charge during the early hours off peak is usually enough for 24hr use.

Using a timer i could just dry out to 1 hr of free charge during the day and the rest of the off so that it doesn't consume too much export energy.

The thread I had read said that was the only way to make the iboost do what you want i.e. turn it off when you want to force discharge - as long as the switch is rated for the immersion load (usually 13-16A) that will work fine.
